Ballet d’Isolement Covid

Classical Composition, Dance

During my senior year of high school, I was chosen to be part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Nancy and Barry Sanders Composer Fellowship Program, under the direction of Andrew Norman, Sarah Gibson, and Thomas Kotcheff. I have always wanted to write a piece of music that my friends and I could dance to and CFP was the perfect opportunity! My senior year was very different than I expected, but I was lucky that through it all, I was able to continue dancing,  first on Zoom, then six feet apart and masked in the studio. I composed “Ballet d’Isolement Covid” for Boston’s Hub New Music Ensemble, reflecting upon the turbulent times we had experienced, while still feeling grateful to be able to come together through music and dance. I co-choreographed and performed the piece with Camilla Machado, Ellie Wein and Ella Sphrung for our final recital at the Los Angeles Ballet Academy.
